If your in love with Junk Journals and junk journaling you have to try making one for yourself. You don’t have to have a big craft room full of supplies or spend a ton of money to make one.
Here is a list of basic craft supplies that you need to start making junk journals:
First you will need some basics like a good pair of scissor, a pencil, a ruler but there are some actual items you will have to walk into a craft store for.
One of them being a Paper Trimmer. This is a investment piece and you want to get the best one you can afford.
Next up is an awl which is easy to find online. You will also need a bookbinding needle (you can find a craft need set at Walmart in the sewing section that has the blunt bookbinding type needles in it.) and I like to use upholstery thread or waxed thread works as well.
Then you will need glue. My favorite is Fabri-Tac because it is not water based so it does not wrinkle or warp the papers. Another great choice is Art Glitter Glue with the fine tip.
Another item I can’t live without is my distress ink and blender to make the journal have a more aged looking appearance.
Now let’s move to the journal supplies:
You can create the cover for your journal out of cereal or cracker boxes, old books, File Folders, manila envelopes or chip board.
Then there is the paper, you can use copy paper and tea or coffee dye it. Ledger paper, old letterhead paper, book pages, music sheet pages, scrapbook paper, magazine pages, and maps, a great place to find these papers is at thrift stores.
Then there is junk mail postcards and envelopes that can be altered to fit the theme of your journal or used as is.
As you start growing your collection of craft supplies you can add ephemera packs, washi tapes and stamps to your must have list as these help in decorating up your journals.
Have fun crafting and here are some step by step tutorial playlist of how to make different types of Junk Journals.
